Region 19 Head Start students presented a $8,456.78 check to United Way of El Paso County’s Kids’ Way fund. Since 1999, Head Start students have participated in the Kids’ Way program that teaches young children and youth the importance, value, and pride in giving back to your community.
This year Head Start students, parents and center staff participated in fund raising efforts, including the notable Pennies for Change. Since the program’s inception, Region 19 Head Start have raised more than $66,342. Funds raised through Kids’ Way support local programs that directly impact children in one of United Way of El Paso County’s three impact areas: Education, Basic Needs, and Income.
In 2012, 11 programs were funded, including Books are GEMS, Child Crisis Center of El Paso, EPISD Education Foundation, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, Junior Achievement, Junior Leadership El Paso, Junior League of El Paso, Kid’s Excel,
“You’re never too young to make a difference – this is an important lesson for our children to learn,” said Dr. Blanca E. Enriquez, ESC Region 19 Head Start executive director. “And we couldn’t be more proud of our parents who work with our centers to make this happen and instill in their children the value of giving back.”
