On December 18th, United Way of El Paso County (UWEPC), along with Region 19 Head Start Program, presented a check for $31,000 to children’s programs in the community. The Kids’ Way mini grants were allocated for programs or projects that directly impact children and/or youth in one of the UWEPC’s three impact areas: Education, Basic Needs, and Income.
The UWEPC Kids’ Way Fund is a cooperative relationship between the UWEPC and the Region 19 Head Start Program. Developed in 1999, the program was initiated to teach El Paso’s young children the value of philanthropy. Since the program’s inception, more than $50,000 has been raised by Head Start children and their parents through various fund raising efforts, including the notable Pennies for Change collection.
The following agencies were awarded between $1,460 and $2,500: Assistance League of El Paso, Books are GEMS, Boy Scouts of America Yucca Council, Ciudad Nueva, Junior Achievement of the Desert Southwest, Inc., Junior Leadership of El Paso, KCOS, Latinitas, Operation Home Front, Operation Noel, Operation Santa Claus, Project ARRIBA, The Therapeutic Horsemanship of El Paso, University Medical Center.
