The Northeast Coalition Celebrates Three Years of Advocacy

In 2011, a group of individuals were brought together by a shared ambition – to support education and positive youth initiatives in the Northeast area of El Paso – formed the Northeast Coalition.birthday cake

This February, the group of now over 400 participants representing education, government agencies, faith-based organizations, youth agencies, health providers, nonprofit organizations as well as residents and parents will celebrate its 3rd anniversary.

“The coalition meetings are a great place to come share programs and events that benefit our youth. Focusing on education and community improvement,” said Judge Brian Haggerty, Justice of the Peace for El Paso County and one of the founding members of the coalition. “We would like this coalition to serve as a model for other El Paso neighborhoods.”

The founding members wanted to make a positive difference in this area of the city and address the issues youth faced: low graduation rates and high truancy rates.

The Coalition continues with the same motivation and serves as a platform for sharing ideas and programs with a large and diverse audience. They meet every second Wednesday of the month from 9 to 11:30 am at Victory Warriors, 4601 Hondo Pass Dr. Ste J El Paso, TX 79904.

Everyone is encouraged to attend!
