United Way of El Paso County’s Young Leaders Society spent their Saturday morning cleaning and organizing the Salvation Army Thrift Store. The group completed tasks such as re-folding and re-hanging clothes, cleaning and organizing furniture to make it look presentable and preparing the store to open in the afternoon. The thrift store depends on volunteers, since the proceeds from sales help fund the programs and services offered to the families living at the Salvation Army shelter. The organization tries to keep overhead low and provide the most that they can to the families they support.
A participant shared about the impact volunteering had on him and his family, “It was a really good time, the work was tough but Salvation Army is a great organization doing wonderful work in our community; knowing our work will directly impact the lives of families in El Paso makes it worth the effort.”
The Young Leaders Society encourages young professionals to become more involved in their community by hosting networking, volunteering, and leadership events throughout the year. For more information on UWYLS please visit their website, www.uwyls.com or contact Rebecca Curry at: email@example.com
