El Paso, Texas (April 2, 2015) – – Dr. Blanca Enriquez, ESC Region 19 Head Start Executive Director, will be named the new Office of Head Start (OHS) Director. Dr. Enriquez has been a longtime supporter of United Way of El Paso County, previously serving as part of its board of directors and participating in education committees.
As OHS director, Dr. Enriquez will oversee the nation’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs, which serve more than 1 million children each year. These programs provide high-quality, comprehensive early care and education to low-income children. Head Start services are designed to increase school readiness and foster the healthy development of young children from birth to age 5.
“I’m excited about the appointment and honored to join the Office of Head Start,” said Dr. Enriquez. “I’m also looking forward to collaborating with a team of incredible professionals with the same commitment and passion for making a difference in the lives of young children who need and count on us most.”
Since 1986, Dr. Enriquez has served as the executive director for the ESC Region 19 Head Start program. In El Paso, Head Start serves more than 4,500 children throughout 27 Head Start centers.
“Dr. Enriquez will be taking 28 years of Head Start experience and sharing it with the nation’s other Head Start programs,” said Dr. Armando Aguirre, ESC Region 19 Head Start Executive Director. “We’ve been fortunate to have had someone of Dr. Enriquez’ caliber serving our educational community, she has impacted many lives during her tenure.”
